UNSUNG HEROES

The great thing about being a tv reporter is you can make just about anything that tickles your fancy a part of your job.

I was so inspired by the story of International Brigader Griff Maclaurin that I wrote a piece of music about him called I AM. It's based around God Defend New Zealand. Soon it became the sound track to my investigation, in Spain, into the life of a man whose death was eerily similar to that of Ernest Hemmingway's hero in For Whom the Bell Tolls. Kiwis see if you can pick up strands of our  national anthem in the sound track. It screened on TVNZ'S Sunday Programme
